Day 1: Nairobi-Samburu National Reserve
Leave Nairobi at 7:00 am driving through the central highlands and into the northern plains with stunning views across the slopes of Mount Kenya, arriving in Samburu National Reserve in time for lunch. Enjoy an afternoon game drive introducing you to this beautiful park, which is home to the famous (Samburu Special Five). The rare species include; Beisa oryx, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, blue-necked Somali ostrich, and reticulated giraffe. The herds of elephants in this reserve will stun you. The Ewaso Ngiro River provides an excellent spot for game viewing.
Day 2: Samburu National Reserve
Dawn breaks in golden bands as we start our day in the bush by scanning the surroundings from our lodge’s veranda with a cup of steaming coffee in hand. Before the dew is off the grass, we’re off in pursuit of the elephants, lions, leopards, and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve’s grasslands and acacia woodlands. The day is spent alternating exploration pursuits in the bush and relaxing in the lodge.
Day 3: Samburu National Reserve- Ol Pejeta Conservancy
After breakfast, depart from Samburu National Reserve and travel to the exotic Sweetwater’s Serena Tented Camp in the secluded heart of Ol Pejeta Ranch and Rhino Reserve. Here, these magnificent beasts are given sanctuary from those who would take their lives to sell their horns. The Jane Goodall Institute operates a remarkable Chimpanzee Sanctuary where we meet the primates face-to-face. Our camp also overlooks one of the busiest waterholes in the area and offers elephant, giraffe and myriad plains game. This is Africa, as Teddy Roosevelt saw it years ago when he led one of the first safaris to tour Africa in comfort and splendor; our tents at Sweetwater’s Serena Tented Camp will remind us of this bygone era. Your overnight stay will be at Sweetwater’s Serena Tented Camp.
Day 4: Ol Pejeta Conservancy -Lake Naivasha
Rise early for your last game drive and return to the camp for breakfast. Leave Ol Pejeta Conservancy after breakfast and head to Lake Naivasha, arriving in time for lunch at the Lake Naivasha Sopa. Relax after lunch, enjoying the lodge facilities. Should you be interested, you can opt to take a boat ride to explore the lake or visit the Hells Gate National Park for a biking experience. All these are at an extra cost.
Day 5: Lake Naivasha – Masai Mara National Reserve
Wake up, check out, enjoy breakfast, and later depart Lake Naivasha. Drive south to reach the game-abundant Masai Mara in time for lunch at the Ashnil Mara Camp. An afternoon game drive in this magical environment reveals the giant herds of plains game and the numerous predators that have made the reserve so famous. You can look forward to an entertaining afternoon.
Day 6: Masai Mara National Reserve
The Masai Mara is Kenya’s finest wildlife sanctuary; everything about this reserve is outstanding. The wildlife is abundant, and the gentle rolling grassland ensures that animals are never out of sight. Birds, too, are prolific, including migrant birds and 53 birds of prey species. The wildlife is far from being confined within the reserve boundaries. An even larger area, generally referred to as the “dispersal area”, extends north and east of the game reserve. The first sight of this park is breathtaking. Here the great herds of shuffling elephants browse among the rich tree-studded grasslands with an occasional sighting of a solitary and ill-tempered rhino. Thousands of plains herbivores such as Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelle, topi, and eland offer a rich choice of food for the dominant predators: lion, leopard, and cheetah all hunt in this pristine wilderness.
Day 7: Masai Mara National Reserve -Nairobi
Rise at first light and head for your last game drive in reserve, returning to the lodge for breakfast which is a perfect way to cap off your visit to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Depart for Nairobi with souvenir shopping along the way, arriving in Nairobi in the afternoon.
